EFCC Petition: Zamfara Senate Aspirant Shinkafi Accuses Matawalle of Witch-Hunt 🔹

All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholder in Zamfara State and Zamfara North senatorial aspirant, Hon. Abdullahi Shinkafi, has accused former governor and current Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, of orchestrating a witch-hunt against him over a petition reportedly submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Shinkafi disclosed that he was invited by the EFCC following allegations in the petition, which accused him of involvement in illegal mining and the sponsorship of terrorism in Zamfara State—claims he firmly denied.

Addressing journalists at a press conference held at his residence in the Samaru area of Gusau, the state capital, Shinkafi described the allegations as false, malicious, and aimed at damaging his reputation.

He stated that the petition was sponsored by individuals with the intent to discredit him and undermine the credibility he has built over the years.

The senatorial hopeful denied any link to illegal mining or terrorist activities, insisting that the accusations were politically motivated.

He further alleged that the petition originated during Matawalle’s tenure as governor, explaining that funds were transferred to him at the time for political and strategic purposes due to his alliance with the administration.

According to Shinkafi, a total of about N10 million was paid into his company account in five tranches during that period, stressing that the payments were not connected to any contractual agreement.

He maintained that the funds were part of political engagements aimed at fostering peace, stability, and development in the state.

Shinkafi also called on APC leaders at both the state and national levels to intervene, alleging a coordinated effort to tarnish his image and derail his political ambitions.

He urged party leadership to support him against what he described as deliberate attempts to undermine his credibility.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shinkafi also expressed support for the re-election bid of Governor Dauda Lawal, noting that his political structure remains active ahead of the 2027 elections.

He assured his supporters in Zamfara North Senatorial District that he remains in the race and will not be intimidated by the allegations, urging them to remain calm and steadfast.

Shinkafi further called on party stakeholders to resist what he described as politically driven attempts to silence or intimidate him.
