Police Debunk Reports: Kidnap Victims Still in Captivity Despite Igboho’s Ultimatum

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that two persons abducted recently in Igbope remain in captivity.Reports emerged on Sunday claiming the victims had been freed by their abductors, alleged to be Fulani herdsmen, following an ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho. But the Command dismissed the reports in a statement issued Sunday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade.

DAILY POST gathered that the victims, identified as Mrs Kuburat Omowumi and her son, were kidnapped a few days ago in the area.Rumours circulated online on Sunday suggesting Igboho’s intervention led to their release.Ayanlade, however, described the claims as false and misleading, including the video shared online. He said rescue efforts are ongoing to secure the victims’ freedom and urged the public to verify information before sharing it.“The Oyo State Police Command has noted a video and related online posts alleging that Mrs Kuburat Omowumi and her son, kidnapped at Igbope on June 16, 2026, have been rescued.“The Command categorically states that the claim in the viral video is false, baseless, and misleading,” the statement read.
