Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), taking place in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima is expected to join political and business leaders from across West Africa and beyond at the summit, holding today, July 19, 2026, at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown.
The meeting will centre on critical policy decisions and strategic resolutions, while also reaffirming the commitment of regional leaders to peace, democratic governance, economic growth and deeper regional integration.
The summit forms part of ECOWAS’ mid-year statutory meetings, which convene heads of state and government, ministers, senior officials and key regional institutions to advance shared priorities such as security, trade, infrastructure development and sustainable growth.
Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his official engagements in Sierra Leone.
