The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) on Monday formally inducted 85 Nigerian pharmacists trained abroad, urging them to maintain the highest levels of integrity, professionalism and patient-focused care as they begin practising in the country.
The ceremony, held in Abuja, marked the oath-taking and induction of participants in the first batch of the 2026 Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Orientation Programme.
Speaking at the event, PCN Registrar, Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed, described the occasion as more than a formality, noting that it signified the start of a new professional chapter grounded in knowledge, experience and a shared dedication to quality healthcare delivery.
He praised the inductees for choosing to return to Nigeria after their studies overseas, commending their commitment to contributing to the growth of the nation’s pharmaceutical sector.
Ahmed highlighted the value of the pharmacists’ global exposure, saying their expertise and diverse perspectives would enhance collaboration within the profession and help raise standards of practice across the country.
He reminded them that pharmacy is a profession built on ethics, precision, compassion and continuous learning, urging them to familiarise themselves with Nigeria’s regulatory framework and professional expectations.
The registrar also assured the new pharmacists of the Council’s support as they transition into the local healthcare system, encouraging them to adapt and excel in their new environment.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Pharm. Luka Baba, described the induction as a major milestone for both the inductees and Nigeria’s healthcare sector, noting that the orientation programme had effectively bridged the gap between their international training and local practice requirements.
