2027: Toyin Abraham distances self from Lagos APC campaign council

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared on the party’s list of members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abraham was listed among 33 entertainment and creative industry personalities in the council’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate unveiled by the Lagos APC on Thursday.

However, the actress has rejected the reported appointment, saying she is not a member of any campaign council and has chosen to stay out of politics.

Abraham Rejects Inclusion

Reacting to the development in an Instagram Story, Abraham said she had previously made her position clear and urged members of the public to disregard her reported inclusion in the campaign structure.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.

Her clarification came shortly after the Lagos APC released its campaign council structure as the party begins preparations for the 2027 elections.

Other Entertainers Listed

Abraham’s name appeared alongside several prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Fathia Balogun and Yinka Quadri were among those listed.

Fuji musicians Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba were also included, alongside other actors, musicians and creative professionals.

According to the published structure, Toke Benson-Awoyinka is the Director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with Kosoko as Co-Director and Badmus as Deputy Director.

Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, was listed as Secretary, while Dare Olateju was named Assistant Secretary.

Council Set for Inauguration

The Lagos APC campaign council is scheduled for formal inauguration on Friday, September 18, at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.

The Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate is one of several structures created by the party as it begins organising its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite Abraham’s name remaining on the published list, her public statement indicates that she does not consider herself part of the campaign council and does not intend to participate in its activities.

A Change From Her 2023 Political Engagement

Abraham’s latest position also marks a contrast with her prominent political involvement during the 2023 presidential election, when she publicly supported Bola Tinubu.

Her political stance at the time attracted considerable attention and criticism on social media. She subsequently became involved in several online controversies linked to her political views and public comments.

The actress has now made clear that she intends to remain outside political campaign activities, regardless of her inclusion on the Lagos APC’s published list.

The development comes as political parties and potential candidates begin intensifying preparations for the 2027 elections, with entertainers and other public figures increasingly being included in campaign structures aimed at reaching wider audiences.
