The Independent National Electoral Commission has opened its online portal for the recruitment of ad hoc personnel who will participate in the conduct of the 2027 general elections.

The recruitment is for temporary election workers who will be trained and deployed to support INEC during the polls before being released after the exercise. The commission says the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.

According to INEC, the recruitment portal, known as INECPRES, opened at 8am on Friday, September 18, 2026, and will close at midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.

Positions Available

The recruitment covers several categories of election personnel, including:

  • Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs)
  • Presiding Officers (POs)
  • Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs)
  • Registration Area Centre Managers (RAC Managers)
  • Registration Area Technical Support personnel (RATECHs)

INEC has advised applicants to carefully check the eligibility requirements for their preferred position before submitting an application.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility varies according to the position, educational background, employment status and institution of the applicant.

Potential applicants include serving NYSC members, eligible former corps members, students of Federal and State tertiary institutions, qualified Federal and State government employees, permanent staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, eligible INEC personnel and applicants with relevant ICT qualifications.

Personnel associated with institutions designated to host Registration Area Centres may also qualify for the RAC Manager position, subject to INEC’s requirements.

For Supervisory Presiding Officers, eligible public-sector workers within the applicable Grade Levels 10 to 14 are among those listed in the recruitment criteria.

For Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers, eligible tertiary institution students and certain government employees with the required qualifications may apply.

RATECH positions are targeted at applicants with relevant ICT and technical backgrounds.

How to Apply

Interested Nigerians are expected to apply through the official INECPRES portal and should avoid unofficial websites or social media links claiming to offer INEC recruitment.

Applicants should follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official INECPRES recruitment portal through INEC’s official website.
  2. Read the eligibility requirements carefully.
  3. Select one position for which they qualify.
  4. Create or access their applicant profile.
  5. Provide their personal, educational and employment information.
  6. Upload the required photograph and other requested information.
  7. Carefully review the information supplied before submitting the application.
  8. Submit the application and retain the acknowledgement details for future reference.

INECPRES states that an applicant cannot apply for more than one election staff position. After a successful submission, an acknowledgement slip is made available for printing, while a confirmation message is also sent to the applicant’s email.
