The Anambra State Government has challenged former Governor Peter Obi over his claim that he left office without outstanding salary, pension or gratuity liabilities.
The government, through Commissioner for Information Law Mefor, released documents it said showed that arrears involving workers of the defunct Water Corporation and other employees persisted during Obi’s tenure.
It also disputed Obi’s claim that his administration cleared more than ₦35 billion in historical arrears and left the state without financial liabilities. (Punch Newspapers)
The development followed Obi’s statement that he would stop campaigning for the 2027 presidential election if anyone could prove that his administration left debts or unpaid obligations.
The Anambra government also disclosed details of eight external loans linked to projects during Obi’s tenure, with an outstanding balance of about $92.35 million as of June 30, 2026. (vanguardngr.com)
