The Bayelsa State Government has pledged to provide counterpart funding for major road projects and other infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving transportation, connectivity and economic development across the state.
The commitment was made by the state government as it continues to explore partnerships with the Federal Government, development agencies and other stakeholders to accelerate infrastructure development.
The government said providing counterpart funding would enable Bayelsa to access additional resources for critical projects and ensure that ongoing infrastructure programmes are completed within the required timeframe.
According to the administration, improved road infrastructure remains essential to opening up rural communities, facilitating the movement of agricultural produce and boosting commercial activities across the state.
The government also noted that better road networks would improve access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets and other essential services, particularly for residents in hard-to-reach communities.
Officials said the state would continue to prioritise projects based on their economic and social importance, while ensuring that available resources are directed towards infrastructure capable of delivering long-term benefits.
The government further emphasised the need for collaboration between federal and state authorities, local communities and development partners to address Bayelsa’s infrastructure deficit.
It said the counterpart funding commitment demonstrates the state’s willingness to support projects that align with its development priorities and attract additional investment into the state.
Beyond road construction, the government said it would continue to pursue infrastructure projects in areas such as bridges, drainage, public facilities and other sectors necessary to support sustainable development.
The administration expressed optimism that the completion of major infrastructure projects would strengthen economic activities, create employment opportunities and improve the quality of life of residents.
The government also called on contractors and relevant stakeholders to ensure that projects are executed according to specifications and within agreed timelines, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
With the counterpart funding commitment, the state said it remains focused on expanding infrastructure and improving connectivity as part of its broader development agenda.
