A former minister, Sambo, has reportedly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, joining the growing number of political figures expressing support for the President’s re-election bid.
The endorsement comes amid increasing political activities and consultations as politicians and stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next presidential election.
Sambo’s support is seen as another boost for Tinubu’s political ambition, particularly as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continues efforts to consolidate its support base across the country.
President Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, has introduced several economic and policy reforms aimed at addressing Nigeria’s financial challenges, improving government revenue and attracting investments.
However, his administration has also faced criticism over rising living costs, inflation, transportation expenses and the economic difficulties experienced by many Nigerians.
Despite these challenges, supporters of the President have maintained that the reforms require sufficient time to deliver their expected benefits. They have argued that allowing Tinubu another four years would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing policies and complete major development projects.
Sambo’s endorsement adds to the political conversations surrounding the 2027 elections, with political leaders, former government officials and party stakeholders increasingly declaring their positions.
The APC is expected to rely on endorsements from influential political figures and grassroots mobilisation as it prepares for the next electoral contest.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties are also expected to intensify consultations and political activities in an effort to challenge the ruling party.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, Tinubu’s possible second-term ambition is likely to remain a major issue in Nigeria’s political landscape.
