PDP Launches E-Registration Drive in Sokoto Amidst Internal Shifts
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked off an e-registration and sensitisation drive in Sokoto State, aiming to boost membership and data integrity. The exercise, held at Dankeni Guest House, is part of the party’s nationwide effort to digitise its membership register and strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of upcoming elections. ¹
However, concerns arose over the absence of party executives at the event. Former Commissioner for Water Resources, Dahiru Yusuf Yabo, attributed this to recent political realignments, stating that the leadership producing the current executives has moved to another platform but asked them to remain in PDP.
Yabo dismissed suggestions that this signals weakness within the party, emphasizing that PDP remains strong and is mobilising across the country. He referenced Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, noting that political alliances are not unusual.
The e-registration system aims to enhance transparency and eliminate duplication, capturing complete member details to prevent identity misuse. The digital process works alongside the traditional system, with members documented at the ward level for record purposes.
PDP stakeholders, including Hayyatu Tafida and Hadiza Abubakar, highlighted the importance of bridging the digital gap, especially among grassroots members. They rejected claims of factionalisation, stating that PDP has one recognised leadership and is prepared for elections.
The PDP’s digital membership drive underscores its efforts to rebuild and consolidate its base amidst internal shifts.
