PDP Reconciliation Gains Momentum as Turaki Unveils Fresh Push for Unity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is inching closer to healing its internal riffs as the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) has confirmed the launch of a fresh reconciliation process. In a statement, Turaki, whose faction is backed by party governors, revealed that leaders from both sides have begun talks aimed at uniting aggrieved factions within the party.

“We are making progress,” Turaki said, urging supporters to tone down heated rhetoric to pave the way for a lasting resolution. “We appeal to our supporters across the board to immediately de-escalate high-tempered communications and actions, so as not to jeopardise the ongoing peace efforts.”

The PDP is keen on presenting a united front ahead of upcoming elections, with Turaki assuring aspirants that the party will field candidates for all elective positions. “To all aspirants who have stood with us thus far, we assure you that, by the grace of God, our party will field candidates for all elective offices, in compliance with Article 6(2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).”

Turaki thanked Nigerians who have continued to show interest in the party, noting that despite challenges facing the PDP, its supporters remain steadfast. He cited the party’s rich history, having led Nigeria for 16 years, and reaffirmed its commitment to defending and consolidating democracy.

The PDP leader also passed a vote of confidence on party governors, Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, for their resilience and leadership. “Let me convey the NWC’s unanimous vote of confidence passed on Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their resilience and steadfast leadership in the face of recent challenges.”

As the reconciliation process gains traction, Turaki reminded those in authority that they are delegates of the people and must act in their best interests. “We call on those in authority to remain conscious that they are delegates of the people, and that their actions must, at all times, align with the will of the people.”

With the PDP’s e-registration platform, (link unavailable), attracting renewed interest, Turaki expressed optimism about the party’s prospects. “Despite recent challenges, the faith of our core supporters remains unshaken. It is for them that we are making every effort to resolve the issues before us.”

The PDP’s efforts to find common ground come as the party faces internal strife and criticisms from within. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed concerns over the party’s travails, saying he is “sad” about the PDP’s current state.

As the party navigates these choppy waters, Turaki remains hopeful that the PDP will emerge stronger. “Let me end by reassuring Nigerians that the PDP is alive and will participate in the forthcoming elections, offering a credible platform for robust political contests at all levels, so that power may truly return to the people.”
