The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has introduced an extensive socio-economic recovery plan for Nigeria, outlining major reforms across key sectors such as employment, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and industrial development.
Adebayo, who emerged as the party’s consensus candidate during the SDP national convention held in Bauchi, stated that his administration would focus on building a people-oriented government aimed at alleviating poverty, restoring public trust, and revitalizing the nation’s productive capacity.
🔷 Ambitious Reform Agenda
Speaking to party delegates and supporters after securing the party’s ticket, Adebayo revealed that his government would roll out over 500 targeted programmes to address pressing national challenges, including unemployment, insecurity, inadequate healthcare, deteriorating infrastructure, and widespread economic hardship.
He emphasized that poverty reduction would be at the core of his administration’s policies.
🔷 Employment and Economic Growth Plans
Adebayo also pledged to reduce unemployment to four per cent within two years through a nationwide job creation and public works initiative. The programme is designed to engage millions of Nigerians in productive economic activities.
According to him, the initiative will focus on:
- Infrastructure development
- Industrial revitalization
- Manufacturing
- Agriculture
- Small and medium-scale enterprises
These efforts, he explained, are aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving livelihoods.
🔷 Education Reform Strategy
On education, the SDP candidate proposed free and compulsory education from basic to tertiary levels, emphasizing that the system should guarantee employability.
He further explained that his administration would align education with employment opportunities, ensuring a smooth transition from school to the workforce for Nigerian youths.
🔷 Healthcare Initiatives
In the health sector, Adebayo promised universal access to affordable healthcare services, supported by a system linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).
Under this plan:
- Every Nigerian would receive four free medical check-ups annually
- The NIN would function as a health insurance identifier
He stressed that preventive healthcare would be a major focus of his administration.
🔷 Industrial Revival and Expansion
Adebayo also outlined plans to revive dormant industries and public enterprises, including:
- Ajaokuta Steel Company
- Refineries
- Paper mills
- Textile factories
He noted that revitalizing these industries would:
- Boost economic growth
- Create employment opportunities
- Reduce reliance on imports
Additionally, he proposed expanding industrial activities across all states, with the establishment of hubs for:
- Textile production
- Cement manufacturing
- Carpentry
- General manufacturing
These, he said, would strengthen local economies and improve living standards.
🔷 Criticism of Current Administration
The SDP candidate criticized the current government’s economic policies, arguing that savings from subsidy removal have not translated into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
He attributed the country’s economic challenges to:
- Corruption
- Inconsistent policies
- Poor economic management
According to him, these factors have worsened hardship nationwide.
🔷 Governance and Institutional Reforms
Adebayo also highlighted the importance of strengthening governance at all levels. He advocated for:
- Stronger state governments
- Independent legislatures
- Effective local government systems
He argued that sustainable poverty reduction and grassroots development can only be achieved through functional and empowered sub-national institutions.
🔷 Positioning for 2027 Elections
The SDP presidential candidate concluded by presenting his party as a credible alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
