Macron and Ruto Highlight Youth, Innovation, and Strategic Autonomy

French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto on Monday unveiled new partnerships in arts, sports, and technology, stressing the importance of combining Africa’s youthful talent with France’s technological expertise to drive economic growth.

Summit Highlights – Empowering Kenya’s Youth

The announcement came during the Africa Forward Summit at the University of Nairobi, where the two leaders met with young people, artists, and athletes.

  • Macron emphasized that most global tech solutions come from the U.S. and China, but argued that Africa and Europe could collaborate to build stronger innovations.
  • Ruto highlighted Africa’s enterprising youth, strong internet infrastructure, and entrepreneurial spirit as key drivers of future technological advancement.

Macron’s Vision

“We have a common fight, a common battle together of investment, which is to build our strategic autonomy for Europe and Africa, and if we build it together, we will be much stronger,” Macron said.

Ruto’s Call

Ruto echoed the sentiment, saying: “We have young people with the right skills… the future is about technology.” He urged global partners to recognize Africa’s potential as a hub for innovation and growth.

Outlook

The partnerships mark a new phase in France–Kenya cooperation, with a focus on empowering youth, fostering creativity, and leveraging technology to strengthen both economies. The summit sets the stage for deeper Africa–Europe collaboration in shaping the industries of tomorrow.
