Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the South-West have endorsed Mohammed Hayatu-Deen (OON) ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Monday, expressing confidence in his ability to reposition Nigeria and tackle its pressing economic and governance challenges.
The endorsement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Babajide Dosunmu, leader of the ADC South-West Professionals Forum, following wide consultations with party leaders, youth groups, professionals, and grassroots mobilisers across the region.
Dosunmu explained that the decision was driven by what he described as a growing consensus that Nigeria can no longer afford untested leadership, political theatrics, or a return to failed governance models.
“The South-West has always championed progressive ideals, competence in governance, and economic advancement. After extensive consultations, we are convinced that Mohammed Hayatu-Deen embodies the leadership Nigeria urgently needs,” he said.
He noted that Hayatu-Deen’s experience in banking, economic management, public policy, and institutional leadership equips him to address key national challenges, including economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, and dwindling investor confidence.
“At a time when many Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet, businesses are collapsing, and insecurity threatens national stability, the country requires a leader with a deep understanding of economic systems. Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has that expertise,” the statement added.
Dosunmu also highlighted Hayatu-Deen’s call for aspirants to commit to the ADC’s Governance Principles and Code of Ethics, known as the Orange Book, describing it as a reflection of his commitment to accountability and values-driven leadership.
“In a political environment where power is often pursued without responsibility, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has distinguished himself through issue-based engagement and a strong commitment to principled leadership,” he said.
The group urged delegates participating in the primaries to support Hayatu-Deen, stressing that the ADC has a unique opportunity to present Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The choice before delegates goes beyond individual ambitions; it concerns the future of our party and the nation. We believe Mohammed Hayatu-Deen offers the ADC a viable path to delivering effective governance,” the statement concluded.
