Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Kogi State Police Command disclosed that the arrests followed the conclusion of investigations into the death of Mariam Usman, who reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained from a series of assaults.
According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the case was reported on June 25, 2026, prompting detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja to launch a detailed probe.
Preliminary findings revealed that on June 17, Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary measures she had taken against his 11-year-old son while performing her duties at the school.
Investigators further alleged that later the same day, the victim was attacked again by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo while on her way to the mosque for prayers.
The police added that on June 18, Ojonojima Mary—reported to be the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo—allegedly visited the school and assaulted the victim at her workplace.
Following the attacks, the victim was initially treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka before being referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical care. She, however, died on June 25 from injuries allegedly sustained during the assaults.
Police said investigations established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects: Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, and Abdullahi Isiaka.
“The investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the detectives for their professionalism and diligence, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to justice and the fight against violent crime.
He also urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead seek lawful means of resolving disputes. He further encouraged residents to provide timely and credible information to support crime prevention and effective policing.
