The Federal Government is set to receive an additional 39 Nigerians fleeing xenophobic attacks in South Africa, following earlier evacuation efforts that have so far brought home 1,141 citizens from the country.

On Thursday, the fourth evacuation flight returned 282 Nigerians, who arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the 39 nationals are en route from Johannesburg to Lagos under emergency travel arrangements facilitated by Air Peace. The arrangement was made to accommodate those who were unable to board Thursday’s flight.

“This is to ensure there is no disruption or spillover from the ongoing pre-scheduled evacuation flights for our nationals who completed their documentation within the stipulated deadline,” the statement said.

The flight is expected to arrive at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on July 10, 2026, at 8:50 p.m.

The Ministry expressed appreciation to the management of Air Peace for its cooperation in facilitating the additional evacuation exercise.

“The final evacuation flight, which is expected to bring home approximately 300 Nigerians, is scheduled to arrive next week,” the statement added.

The government reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to the welfare, protection, and safe return of Nigerian citizens affected by the ongoing xenophobic incidents in South Africa.
