The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the request by Governor Seyi Makinde to proceed on his annual leave, paving the way for his deputy, Bayo Lawal, to assume leadership in an acting capacity during the period.
The approval followed the formal transmission of a letter from the governor to the Assembly, notifying lawmakers of his intention to embark on a scheduled vacation in line with constitutional provisions. During plenary, the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, read the letter before members, who subsequently deliberated and granted the request without opposition.
In his correspondence, Makinde explained that the leave was part of his official annual entitlement and assured the Assembly that governance in the state would continue seamlessly in his absence. He expressed confidence in his deputy’s ability to oversee the affairs of the state and sustain ongoing programmes and policies.
Following the Assembly’s approval, Bayo Lawal is expected to function as Acting Governor, in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, which empower a deputy governor to assume such responsibilities when the governor is temporarily unavailable.
