The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has urged youths in Enugu State to take advantage of recruitment opportunities in the Federal Government without relying on political connections or so-called godfathers.
The FCC commissioner, who made the call while addressing youths in the state, said qualified Nigerians should have confidence in their abilities and pursue available opportunities through legitimate channels.
According to the commissioner, securing employment in the Federal Government should be based on merit, qualification and compliance with established recruitment procedures rather than personal connections.
The commissioner encouraged young people to regularly monitor official government recruitment portals and platforms for vacancies, warning them against individuals who demand money or claim they can secure federal appointments through their connections.
The appeal comes amid persistent concerns among Nigerian youths that political influence and personal connections are sometimes required to secure public-sector employment.
The FCC official stressed that young Nigerians should not be discouraged by such perceptions, urging them to acquire relevant skills, obtain the necessary qualifications and apply for opportunities whenever they become available.
The commissioner also advised prospective applicants to be cautious of fraudulent recruitment agents who exploit job seekers by promising government employment in exchange for money.
The official said the government remained committed to ensuring fairness and inclusiveness in federal appointments and employment opportunities, in line with the principles of the Federal Character Commission.
The commissioner further called on youths in Enugu and other parts of the country to remain patient, persistent and committed to self-development, noting that competence and preparedness would improve their chances of securing employment.
The message was particularly directed at young graduates facing difficulties in the labour market, with the commissioner encouraging them not to allow the challenges surrounding employment to push them into fraudulent or illegal activities.
The FCC also urged relevant government agencies to continue providing transparent information about recruitment exercises so that qualified applicants across the country could compete on an equal basis.
The commissioner said greater awareness of legitimate recruitment procedures would help reduce the influence of middlemen and protect job seekers from exploitation.
The official maintained that Nigerian youths should believe in their qualifications and make use of legitimate opportunities available to them rather than depending on godfathers to secure Federal Government jobs.
