The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has commenced a study tour of Nigeria to learn from the country’s experience in developing local content in the oil and gas industry.
The delegation is expected to engage with relevant Nigerian institutions and stakeholders to gain insights into policies, regulations and strategies that have supported the growth of indigenous participation in the petroleum sector.
The visit is focused on understanding how Nigeria has strengthened the capacity of local businesses and professionals to participate in the oil and gas value chain.
Discussions are expected to cover areas including local content development, capacity building, technology transfer, skills development and opportunities for indigenous companies within the petroleum industry.
Nigeria’s local content framework has increasingly emphasised greater participation of Nigerian companies in the provision of goods and services to the oil and gas sector, while promoting the development of local expertise and industrial capacity.
For the DR Congo delegation, the study tour provides an opportunity to examine Nigeria’s experience and identify practices that could be adapted to strengthen local participation in its own emerging oil and gas industry.
The engagement also offers both countries an avenue to exchange knowledge and explore areas of cooperation in the petroleum sector.
Officials involved in the programme are expected to share experiences and discuss the challenges associated with implementing local content policies, particularly in building competitive indigenous companies and ensuring sustainable economic benefits from natural resources.
