BEIJING/QINGDAO — Chinese exports to Africa could top $200 billion in 2025, even as Beijing remains locked in a trade war with the United States.

Chinese customs figures show that $122 billion worth of goods were exported to Africa in the first eight months of 2025. Projections suggest the total could reach $200 billion by year’s end.
In the same period, Africa exported $87 billion to China — a modest 2.3% growth — leaving Africa with a $60 billion trade deficit.

Africa’s imports from China are dominated by:

- Automobiles
- Metal products

In 2024, bilateral trade hit $295.6 billion, setting a record for the fourth consecutive year.
Tariff Waivers
To boost African exports, China waived tariffs this year for 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations.
