Doris Ogala Risks Arrest as Court Adjourns Over Repeated Absence in Pastor Okafor Trial

The Federal High Court in Lagos has warned Nollywood actress Doris Ogala that she risks arrest if she fails to appear at the next hearing in her ongoing case involving cleric Pastor Chris Okafor. The warning followed Ogala’s second consecutive absence, which stalled her planned arraignment over allegations filed by the Federal Government. She is facing charges under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, and Administration) Amendment Act, 2024. The case centres on allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, dissemination of false information, and attempted extortion related to online posts about Grace Nation International Church founder, Pastor Chris Okafor. At the hearing before Justice Akintayo Aluko, Ogala’s counsel, N.C. Atulomah, told the court his client was receiving treatment at a Federal Medical Centre. He requested more time and assured the court of her attendance at the next sitting.Lead prosecuting counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, however, disputed the claim. He said court documents indicated Ogala had been discharged and was only on outpatient care. Mokolu also noted that the actress was recently seen participating in a political party primary election, casting doubt on her medical excuse. While not opposing the adjournment, Mokolu said the prosecution would apply for a bench warrant if Ogala missed the next date.Justice Aluko granted the adjournment and fixed a new date for continuation of the case. The charges remain unproven, and Ogala is yet to enter a plea.
