The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded notable improvements in operational efficiency and a reduction in road crashes by 10 per cent, following the implementation of a series of reforms, according to the Corps Marshal.
Speaking on the development, the FRSC boss attributed the progress to strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening road safety enforcement, enhancing personnel capacity, and leveraging technology to improve service delivery. He noted that the reforms were designed to address longstanding challenges in traffic management and reduce the incidence of accidents on Nigerian roads.
The Corps Marshal explained that key measures introduced include the deployment of digital monitoring systems, improved patrol logistics, and intensified public awareness campaigns on safe driving practices. He added that the corps has also prioritised training and retraining of officers to ensure professionalism and responsiveness in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, the combination of these efforts has begun to yield positive results, with a measurable decline in road crashes across several parts of the country. He stressed that the 10 per cent reduction reflects the effectiveness of the reforms and underscores the importance of sustained investment in road safety initiatives.
The FRSC also highlighted its collaboration with other stakeholders, including state governments, transport unions, and relevant agencies, as a critical factor in achieving the milestone. The Corps Marshal noted that a multi-sectoral approach remains essential in tackling road safety challenges and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
He further urged motorists to complement the corps’ efforts by adhering strictly to road safety rules, avoiding reckless driving, and maintaining their vehicles in good condition. He emphasised that while institutional reforms are important, individual responsibility plays a crucial role in reducing accidents.
Stakeholders in the transport sector have welcomed the reported improvements, describing them as encouraging signs of progress in a sector often plagued by safety concerns. They, however, called for the continuous strengthening of enforcement mechanisms and infrastructure to sustain the gains recorded.
As the FRSC continues to implement its reform agenda, the corps reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property on Nigerian roads, with a focus on achieving even greater reductions in crashes in the coming years.
