Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has denied claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal Government provided N50 billion to support the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport.
Wike had said President Bola Tinubu’s administration provided the funds to assist Makinde with the expansion of the airport. (Oyo Insight)
Reacting to the claim, Makinde dismissed it as false, insisting that the Federal Government did not give Oyo State N50 billion for the airport project. (Punch Newspapers)
The controversy comes amid the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, including the construction of a new terminal as the state works to transform the facility into an international airport. (Premium Times Nigeria)
Makinde has previously said the airport project was being undertaken by the state government, with the contract reportedly awarded to Craneburg Construction.
The dispute has added another dimension to the political differences between Makinde and Wike, who were both members of the former Peoples Democratic Party G5 during the 2023 presidential election. Wike has maintained that members of the group benefited in different ways from the Tinubu administration, while Makinde has disputed the claim concerning the airport funding. (Naija News)
