Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled a state-of-the-art sickle cell treatment centre alongside a comprehensive disease control complex, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and tackle endemic diseases.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Kano, the governor described the twin facilities as critical interventions aimed at addressing the growing burden of Sickle Cell Disease and improving the state’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies. He noted that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to investing in healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to quality medical services for residents.
The newly inaugurated sickle cell centre is designed to provide specialized care, including early diagnosis, genetic counseling, and comprehensive treatment for patients living with the condition. According to the governor, the facility will also serve as a hub for research and public awareness campaigns, helping to reduce the prevalence and complications associated with the disease.
In addition, the disease control complex is equipped to monitor, prevent, and manage infectious diseases, with modern laboratories and surveillance systems intended to enhance rapid response capabilities.
