The National Emergency Management Agency has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of recent banditry attacks in Kebbi State, as part of efforts to provide humanitarian support to affected communities.
This was disclosed in a statement published on the Kebbi NEMA Facebook page on Monday.
According to the statement, the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, flagged off the distribution exercise for persons affected by attacks in Shanga, Yauri, and Bunza Local Government Areas of the state.

“The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has flagged off the distribution of relief materials to persons affected by recent banditry attacks in Shanga, Yauri, and Bunza Local Government Areas of Kebbi State,” the statement read.

It noted that “the flag-off ceremony, which took place in Birnin Kebbi, was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at providing timely humanitarian support and ensuring the welfare and safety of citizens across the country.”
Speaking during the event, Umar sympathised with the Kebbi State Government and the affected communities, stressing that the intervention followed a needs assessment.
“She stated that the relief items were identified through an assessment of the urgent needs of the affected populations,” the statement said, adding that “the intervention demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.”Related News

The agency further disclosed that traditional and government representatives attended the event. “Present at the event was the Wazirin Gwandu, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, who represented the Emir of Gwandu,” it stated, noting that he appreciated the Federal Government and NEMA for what he described as a timely intervention.
In her remarks, the Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir, was quoted as saying that “the relief items would provide much-needed succour to the affected communities.”

The distribution comes in the wake of recent attacks in parts of Kebbi State.
PUNCH Online had earlier reported that gunmen attacked a mosque in the Dadinkowa community of Maiyama Local Government Area, killing five worshippers and injuring others during a nighttime Qur’anic Tafsir session coinciding with Taraweeh prayers.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that five persons lost their lives while others sustained injuries and were receiving treatment.
Security operatives were subsequently deployed to restore calm and commence investigations.
