The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened industrial action in the Federal Capital Territory over unresolved grievances surrounding the promotion of teachers and other outstanding workers’ entitlements.
The development comes amid renewed concerns over the implementation of teachers’ promotion exercises and alleged delays in addressing recommendations aimed at improving their career progression.
FCT teachers have previously protested over promotion-related issues, including the removal of vacancy requirements and the review of the 2024 promotion exercise. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) had also raised concerns over the implementation of agreements reached with the FCT Administration.
The NLC is expected to engage the relevant authorities as it pushes for the resolution of the grievances, while warning that failure to address the issues could lead to industrial action.
The union’s position adds pressure on the FCT Administration to resolve the lingering concerns and prevent another disruption to public services in the nation’s capital.
