The Osun State Government has clarified that several poorly constructed roads recently highlighted in public discourse were executed under the administration of former governor Gboyega Oyetola, and not by the current government led by Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement issued by state officials, the government said the clarification became necessary to correct what it described as misleading claims suggesting that the substandard projects were carried out by the present administration. It maintained that the roads in question were awarded and constructed prior to the assumption of office by Governor Adeleke.
According to the statement, the current administration has been focused on rehabilitating and completing inherited infrastructure projects, many of which it claims were either poorly executed or abandoned. The government stressed its commitment to delivering durable and quality road networks across the state.
Officials further noted that ongoing assessments are being conducted to identify defective projects inherited from past administrations, with a view to addressing them in line with standard engineering practices. They added that contractors found to have delivered substandard work could face sanctions in accordance with contractual agreements.
The development comes amid growing public concern over the condition of roads in parts of Osun State, where residents have called for urgent government intervention to improve infrastructure and ensure safer transportation.
Meanwhile, stakeholders have urged political actors to avoid politicising infrastructure challenges, emphasizing the need for continuity in governance and accountability across successive administrations.
The Osun State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency and quality service delivery, assuring residents that efforts are underway to fix defective roads and implement sustainable infrastructure projects that will stand the test of time.
