Shehu: Northern Nigeria Has Collapsed – Religious Leaders Now Absent at Burials

Public commentator Mahdi Shehu has described Northern Nigeria as a “land of the living dead,” warning that the region is buckling under fear, insecurity and failed leadership.Shehu made the remark on Saturday via his official X handle, painting a grim picture of a population he said is alive but unresponsive to its challenges.
According to him, many people in the North are living in fear and confusion due to insecurity and economic hardship.“The current inhabitants of Northern Nigeria are alive but dead,” he wrote.
He added that citizens have become traumatized, afraid, and unable to confront reality — a situation he said has weakened their capacity to demand change.Shehu also faulted regional leadership, accusing elites and traditional institutions of failing the people.“They are spineless, visionless, planless and have been reduced to a priceless laughing stock.

All these things are possible because they have no credible leadership, with compromised elites, cowardly traditional institutions, docile citizens, all surrounded by the venoms of envy, hate, greed and man’s inhumanity to man,” he said.In a stinging conclusion, he wrote: “RIP NORTHERN NIGERIA. Imams and priests are not available for burial because most of them are standing on a mandate.”
