South African jurist and 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Navanethem “Navi” Pillay has visited the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands, where she praised the dedication of its officials and staff to international justice.
During the visit on Monday, October 12, Pillay met with court officials and staff members, paying tribute to the institution’s work amid challenging times.
She commended the commitment of those working to uphold justice, noting that their compassion and courage would help ensure that impunity does not prevail.
Pillay served as an ICC judge from 2003 to 2008 and previously led the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. She was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on October 9 for her efforts to promote peace and international law.
ICC President Tomoko Akane also congratulated Pillay on the award, describing international justice as a vital foundation for lasting peace.
