The Dumebi Kachikwu-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday dissolved the National Working Committee (NWC) headed by Senator David Mark during a special convention held in Abuja.
The motion for the dissolution was moved by the Benue State ADC Chairman, Allias Adiku, at the party’s non-elective convention and seconded by the Zamfara State Chairman, Kabiru Garuba.
Delegates unanimously approved the motion through a voice vote, paving the way for the emergence of a new leadership to steer the party for the next four years.
The convention also ratified the party’s amended 2018 constitution as the guiding framework for its operations and administration.
Abdulkadir Bashir emerged as the new National Chairman, with Johnny Derek elected as Deputy National Chairman and Kennedy Odion as National Secretary. Kingsley Ogah was also named Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
In his acceptance speech, Bashir called for unity, fairness, and inclusiveness, urging members to work collectively to rebuild and strengthen the party.
He noted that he has been actively involved in politics since 1999 and previously contested as a vice-presidential candidate under the United Democratic Party before joining the ADC.
Bashir added that he played a significant role in building the party’s structure in Katsina State and across the North-West, attributing the ADC’s internal crisis to selfish interests and attempts by some former leaders to retain control.
He appealed to aggrieved members to put aside past grievances and return to the party to contribute to its growth and national relevance.
