The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) is expected to suspend electricity supply to several parts of the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, due to a scheduled maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
According to TCN, the maintenance will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation. Engineers will carry out routine preventive checks on a 100MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear. (Punch Newspapers)
The affected areas include Wuse Zones 1–7, the Sheraton Hotel area, the Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and adjoining communities.
TCN explained that AEDC would be unable to receive power from the transmission substation during the maintenance period, resulting in a temporary interruption of electricity supply to customers in the affected locations.
The transmission company said the exercise forms part of its routine preventive maintenance programme aimed at improving the reliability and stability of the national electricity transmission network.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage and assured residents that the interruption would be limited to the duration of the maintenance work. (Punch Newspapers)
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to make alternative arrangements for the six-hour period while the maintenance is underway.
