Isaac Fayose has advised his elder brother, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, to forgo his recent appointment as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and instead pass the position to his son, arguing that the role does not match his political stature.
Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, Isaac reacted to the Presidency’s announcement naming Ayo Fayose among 26 appointees to the boards of 10 federal agencies. He maintained that his brother deserved a higher-profile role, such as a ministerial or ambassadorial position, rather than heading a government parastatal.
Referencing the official statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, he noted that Fayose would serve alongside other board members, while the agency’s Director-General and executive directors remain in office.
Isaac questioned why his brother was not considered for more senior appointments and compared the situation with other recent government nominations. He also speculated that the timing of the appointment may be politically motivated, linking it to a recent visit by Labour Party figure Peter Obi.
He further recalled that Ayo Fayose had previously expressed no interest in returning to public office after leaving government, choosing instead to focus on private business, where he had long been financially successful.
Describing the appointment as a “Greek gift,” Isaac congratulated his brother but reiterated that he should reject the role, insisting it falls below his standing. He also used the opportunity to express confidence in the opposition’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections, dismissing concerns about electoral manipulation.
