The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has emerged as the top-performing state nationwide under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) Gateway enrolment for the first quarter of 2026, exceeding its target by over 110,000 beneficiaries.
According to the National Health Insurance Authority’s BHCPF Gateway Q1 2026 Enrolment Report, Kano recorded 327,410 enrollees, significantly surpassing its target of 216,775 to lead all states in the federation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Aminu Turaki, the agency attributed the achievement to the Kano State Government’s sustained commitment to expanding access to affordable healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations.
KSCHMA noted that the milestone reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen health insurance coverage and advance universal health coverage across the state.
The statement also credited the Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar, with spearheading reforms that boosted enrolment through community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, and the expansion of contributory health insurance schemes.
It added that the agency’s performance underscores the effectiveness of its people-centred policies, strategic partnerships, and data-driven implementation model in improving access to quality healthcare services.
According to KSCHMA, the latest ranking further consolidates Kano’s position as a leading state in healthcare financing under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.
The agency expressed appreciation to the National Health Insurance Authority, the Federal Ministry of Health, healthcare providers, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, community-based organisations, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the achievement.
It pledged to sustain the momentum by expanding enrolment, improving service delivery, and enhancing the quality of care under the scheme, while ensuring that more residents—especially vulnerable groups—benefit from affordable and accessible healthcare services across Kano State.
