No Act Of Intimidation, Violence Can Derail My Campaign – Delta NDC Gov’ship Candidate

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State, Chris Iyovwaye, has declared that no form of intimidation or political violence will deter his campaign to provide what he described as a credible alternative for the state.

Iyovwaye made the statement following his visit to his ancestral home in Aghalokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, where he held consultations with his family and community alongside his wife, Leri Iyovwaye.

He alleged that the visit was nearly disrupted by suspected thugs, whom he claimed were sponsored by the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and who attempted to block access to the community town hall. Despite the incident, he said the engagement was successfully concluded and expressed appreciation to residents and supporters for their solidarity.

The NDC candidate commended his supporters for maintaining calm and restraint in the face of what he described as provocation, noting that their conduct helped prevent an escalation into violence.

Condemning the alleged incident, Iyovwaye stressed that intimidation has no place in a democratic society. He called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure a level playing field for all political parties, allowing them to engage freely with the electorate.

He also urged security authorities—including the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS)—to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.

Reaffirming his campaign message, Iyovwaye said the NDC remains committed to delivering good governance, practical solutions and people-focused leadership to address the challenges facing Delta State. He added that his party would continue to pursue its activities peacefully and within the law, with a vision centred on restoring hope, strengthening governance and rebuilding public trust.

“As we move across the state, our message remains clear: together, we will Reset Delta,” he said.
