The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed Hon. Usman Adamu Sufi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.
Sufi emerged at a special delegates’ congress held at the Bauchi PDP Secretariat, organised by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Chairman of the PDP Governorship and State Assembly Primary Election Committee for Bauchi State, Yusuf Doma, stated that delegates from all 20 local government areas participated in the exercise.
The primary was conducted through voice voting and delegate affirmation, with Sufi, the sole aspirant, receiving unanimous endorsement as the party’s flagbearer.
Announcing the outcome, Doma declared that Sufi met all constitutional and electoral requirements, securing the highest affirmation to emerge as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State.
He also confirmed that PDP candidates for the State House of Assembly were duly elected in their respective constituencies in accordance with party rules.
Doma praised party members for their loyalty and expressed optimism that the PDP would secure victory across all contests in the 2027 polls.
In his acceptance speech, Sufi thanked delegates for entrusting him with the ticket, describing it as a great honour. He also appreciated the party leadership for its continued support, noting that he has built a strong political structure capable of winning elections.
He expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in 2027, citing the strength and quality of its candidates, and pledged that, if elected governor, his administration would prioritise education and healthcare as key drivers of development in Bauchi State.
Earlier, the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Kassim Toro, described the party as united and well-prepared for the upcoming elections, highlighting its solid grassroots base. He urged members to intensify mobilisation efforts through door-to-door campaigns.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee for Bauchi State, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim, announced that Dabo Danjuma Adamu emerged as the PDP candidate for Bauchi South Senatorial District through affirmation.
For Bauchi North, Abdulkadir Adamu won a direct primary election with 137 votes, defeating Maula Adamu Aliyu, who scored no votes, while Bello Ibrahim emerged as the candidate for Bauchi Central through affirmation.
Ibrahim noted that the primaries were conducted on May 20, 2026, in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines, following the screening and clearance of aspirants by the National Working Committee.
He added that the process was peaceful and concluded with the formal declaration of all successful aspirants as the PDP’s candidates for the 2027 general elections.
On behalf of the committee, he congratulated the candidates and commended the party leadership for the opportunity to serve in the assignment.
