First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Encourages Nigerians to Embrace Small Businesses Amid Economic Hardship

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to remain optimistic despite the country’s prevailing economic challenges, urging citizens to consider small-scale businesses that require little start-up capital.

Speaking on efforts to empower ordinary Nigerians, Mrs. Tinubu said simple ventures such as selling akara (fried bean cakes), roasted corn, groundnuts and kulikuli can provide sustainable sources of income.

The First Lady explained that her office has been supporting small businesses through grants rather than loans, making it easier for beneficiaries to establish and grow their enterprises without the burden of repayment.

“We didn’t give them loans; we gave them grants. We encourage Nigerians as much as we can. Whatever is within our capacity, I have given and I will continue to give,” she stated.

Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted several humanitarian and healthcare initiatives funded through her office, including ₦2 billion for tuberculosis interventions, ₦1 billion for breast cancer programmes, and ₦500 million to combat malnutrition.

She added that the Office of the First Lady has continued to invest in agriculture, social intervention programmes, education, scholarships, ICT training and other empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

According to her, the Tinubu administration remains committed to supporting programmes that enhance the lives of citizens and expand economic opportunities.

The First Lady linked her message to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the administration is focused on restoring confidence and creating opportunities for Nigerians.
