Resident Doctors Commend Uba Sani On Welfare

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Kaduna State has commended Governor Uba Sani for what it described as his commitment to improving the welfare of medical doctors and strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

The association said the governor’s administration had demonstrated a willingness to address some of the longstanding challenges confronting healthcare workers, particularly resident doctors, while also investing in the broader health sector.

The commendation was contained in remarks by the leadership of the association following its assessment of recent developments in the state’s healthcare system.

According to the doctors, improved working conditions and better welfare packages are essential to retaining skilled medical professionals and ensuring that patients receive quality care.

They noted that resident doctors play a critical role in the delivery of healthcare services, as they combine clinical responsibilities with specialised training and research.

The association therefore urged the state government to sustain its engagement with medical professionals and continue implementing policies that would improve their working environment.

Welfare and Working Conditions

The doctors stressed that adequate remuneration, timely payment of entitlements, access to training opportunities and improved working conditions remain important factors in retaining medical personnel.

They commended the administration for initiatives aimed at addressing some of these concerns, saying improved welfare could boost staff morale and productivity.

The association also called for continued dialogue between the government and healthcare workers to ensure that emerging challenges are identified and addressed before they escalate into industrial disputes.

According to the doctors, regular engagement with health professionals would help the government better understand the realities faced by medical personnel working in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

They maintained that a motivated workforce was essential to the success of any healthcare reform programme.

Investment in Healthcare

The resident doctors also acknowledged the importance of investments in healthcare infrastructure, equipment and human resources.

They said modern medical facilities and functional equipment would improve the ability of doctors and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective treatment.

The association urged the government to sustain investments in hospitals and primary healthcare facilities across the state, particularly in underserved communities.

It also called for regular maintenance of existing infrastructure and equipment to ensure that public resources deliver long-term value.

The doctors noted that strengthening healthcare at the primary and secondary levels could reduce pressure on tertiary hospitals and make essential medical services more accessible to residents.

Training and Professional Development

The association further emphasised the importance of continuous training for medical professionals.

Resident doctors require regular access to specialised training, conferences, workshops and other professional development opportunities to keep pace with developments in medical practice.

The doctors urged the state government to continue supporting such opportunities, arguing that investment in the skills of healthcare workers would ultimately benefit patients.

They also called for improved opportunities for postgraduate medical training and a conducive environment for research and innovation.

Retaining Medical Personnel

The issue of medical brain drain remains a major concern for Nigeria’s healthcare sector, with many doctors and other health professionals seeking opportunities outside the country.

The association said improving welfare and working conditions would be important in encouraging medical professionals to remain in Kaduna and contribute to the state’s healthcare system.

It urged the government to develop policies that would make public-sector medical practice more attractive while creating opportunities for career progression.

The doctors said retaining experienced medical personnel would help strengthen institutional capacity and improve continuity of care.

Partnership With Government

The association also expressed its readiness to work with the Kaduna State Government to improve healthcare delivery.

It said doctors and other health professionals should be regarded as partners in the development of the state’s health sector and should be involved in policy discussions that directly affect medical practice.

The association urged the government to maintain an open channel of communication with health workers and professional bodies.

Such engagement, it said, would help build mutual trust and create a more stable environment for healthcare delivery.

The resident doctors also appealed to other stakeholders, including development partners, private healthcare providers and civil society organisations, to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s health system.

Focus on Patients

While commending the governor’s efforts, the doctors stressed that improved welfare should ultimately translate into better services for patients.

They said investments in health workers, infrastructure and equipment must be accompanied by effective management and accountability.

The association therefore encouraged healthcare professionals to reciprocate government interventions by maintaining high standards of professionalism and putting patients at the centre of their responsibilities.

It also called for stronger monitoring of healthcare facilities to ensure that resources allocated to the sector are properly utilised.

The association expressed optimism that continued collaboration between the government and healthcare workers would lead to further improvements in Kaduna’s health sector.

It urged Governor Uba Sani to sustain the momentum by addressing outstanding welfare concerns, expanding healthcare infrastructure and supporting professional development.

The doctors maintained that a combination of improved worker welfare, modern facilities and effective healthcare policies would strengthen the state’s ability to provide quality medical services to its residents.

They consequently reaffirmed their commitment to working with the administration to build a healthcare system that is more responsive, accessible and capable of meeting the needs of Kaduna residents.
