Zahara Jolie-Pitt has moved forward with her effort to formally remove her father’s surname, marking a significant personal decision in her life.
According to court filings, the 21-year-old has fulfilled a key legal requirement under California law by publishing a notice of her intended name change in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once every week for four consecutive weeks. This public notice serves to inform the general public of her request to change her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie, while also giving anyone who may wish to contest the change an opportunity to file a formal objection ahead of the court’s final ruling.
Zahara initially submitted her petition in June, setting the legal process in motion. A hearing has now been scheduled for September 28, during which a judge will review the application and is expected to grant approval if no valid objections are presented.
Her decision comes amid a broader pattern within the family. Her sister, Shiloh, previously took similar steps and officially removed “Pitt” from her surname in 2024. In addition, other siblings such as Maddox and Vivienne have, in recent years, opted to distance themselves from the Pitt name in public use, signaling a consistent shift in how the children identify themselves.
Altogether, Zahara’s move underscores a continued trend among the siblings as they assert their individual identities, while also navigating personal and family dynamics in the public eye.
