The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to secure the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, deploying aerial surveillance platforms to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations.
The surveillance missions are designed to enhance intelligence gathering, improve situational awareness, and strengthen coordination among security agencies to ensure the safe return of the victims.
This development comes amid growing concern over the welfare of the abductees and underscores the resolve of security agencies, in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, to achieve their prompt rescue.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed that the service has sustained aerial surveillance support for efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire LGA.
He said the development was disclosed by Governor Seyi Makinde during a courtesy visit by a delegation representing the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar. The delegation was led by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, on June 5, 2026.
Governor Makinde revealed that the NAF promptly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the abduction was reported, providing critical intelligence for ongoing rescue operations.
According to him, intelligence generated from the missions has continued to aid security agencies in tracking developments and coordinating efforts toward the safe release of the victims.
The governor appealed to residents to remain calm and supportive, assuring them that all necessary resources were being deployed to secure a successful outcome.
He also commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their swift response and sustained support, noting that the NAF provided the surveillance platform while the state’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.
Makinde explained that the state procured the platforms following consultations with the NAF to ensure access to maintenance support, engineering expertise, and pilot training.
He expressed optimism that the assets, once fully operational, would significantly enhance security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh conveyed the solidarity of the Nigerian Air Force with the government and people of Oyo State, reaffirming the service’s commitment to supporting efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.
He also commended the state government for its continued support for NAF projects and infrastructure development.
The NAF reiterated its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property, while supporting broader efforts to address security challenges across the country.
