Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election held across wards in Abia State.
Atiku secured 25,153 votes to defeat his closest rival, Rotimi Amaechi, who polled 18,339 votes.
Businessman and fellow aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, came third with 3,264 votes.
The result was announced on Monday by the Returning Officer, Onyebuchi Chukwu, after the collation of votes from various wards across the state.
Reacting to the outcome, the Abia State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya, commended party members for their impressive turnout and peaceful conduct during the exercise.
Ogbonnaya described the primary as orderly and transparent, noting that members participated freely across different parts of the state.
The election, monitored by security agencies, was conducted peacefully in several local government areas without any reported disruption.
