Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied asking Nigerians living abroad to abandon their families, dismissing claims suggesting that he made such a statement.
Obi clarified that his position had been misrepresented, insisting that his comments should not be interpreted as encouraging Nigerians in the diaspora to neglect their family responsibilities.
The former Anambra State governor has consistently highlighted the contributions of Nigerians abroad to the country’s economy and development, particularly through remittances, investments and professional expertise.
He has also called for improved governance and economic opportunities to encourage Nigerians to contribute to national development.
Obi’s clarification comes amid public discussions surrounding his remarks and the responsibilities of Nigerians living outside the country.
