The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has called an emergency meeting with native doctors, traditional priests and priestesses to address rising insecurity in Edo State and across the country.
The directive was issued Friday in a statement signed by Chief Victor Nosakhare on behalf of the Benin Traditional Council Secretary, Frank Irabor.According to the statement, the meeting will hold at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Oba’s Palace in Benin City.
The palace said the gathering was convened on Oba Ewuare II’s orders and should be treated as urgent.The palace added that the meeting aims to explore traditional solutions that can complement government efforts to tackle insecurity.
In a related development, the Benin Traditional Council also announced a meeting with youth leaders, known as Okaighele, slated for Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the same venue and time.
The move underscores the growing role of traditional institutions in supporting security agencies as cases of kidnapping and cult violence continue to rise in the state.
